May 21 marks GAAD, the international day for digital accessibility awareness. YouCo is a Bronze Sponsor of Accessibility Days, Italy’s leading event on these topics.

Every year, on the third Thursday of May, the digital world celebrates Global Accessibility Awareness Day — the international day created to promote awareness of the importance of digital accessibility and access to technology for people with disabilities.

GAAD is not just an anniversary: it is a moment when developers, designers, companies, and institutions stop to take stock of how inclusive the web really is — and how much work there is still to do.

In Italy, Accessibility Days 2026, the main Italian conference on the subject, is held on GAAD. YouCo is participating as a Bronze Sponsor, confirming a commitment we have been pursuing for over twenty-five years.

What are Accessibility Days?

Accessibility Days is the leading Italian conference for professionals working on digital accessibility: developers, UX designers, content managers, and IT managers from companies and public administrations. The event offers technical sessions, case studies, and direct interaction with industry experts, with the aim of spreading culture and concrete practices regarding the accessibility of digital products.

The 2026 edition takes place on May 21, 2026, coinciding with GAAD.

Why YouCo supports this event

YouCo has been designing and developing accessible websites and digital applications since 2000. In over twenty-five years of activity, it has supported private companies and Italian public administrations in the process of adapting to digital accessibility standards, applying WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) as well as national and European regulations.

For YouCo, supporting Accessibility Days is the natural continuation of a long-standing commitment: contributing to a digital ecosystem where accessibility is a daily practice, not an exception.

European Accessibility Act: What changes for companies and public administrations

With the European Accessibility Act (EAA) coming into force in June 2025, digital accessibility has become a regulatory requirement for a wide range of digital products and services in the European Union. The directive imposes specific requirements on e-commerce, mobile apps, online banking services, transport, and much more.

Organizations that do not comply risk administrative sanctions and exclusion from public procurement procedures.

The most frequent questions we receive on this topic:

What does the EAA require for corporate websites?
The EAA requires digital products and services to comply with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. For many companies, this means intervening in existing structure, code, content, and navigation flows.

Where do you start to comply with the EAA?
The starting point is an accessibility audit: a technical analysis of the site or application that identifies existing barriers and defines intervention priorities. YouCo provides this service for both private and public clients.

How long does an accessibility project take?
It depends on the complexity of the digital product and the starting point. An intervention on a medium-sized institutional site typically takes between 2 and 6 months, including testing with real users and content revision.
